Kratom has become increasingly popular over the past several years, as more and more people have begun using it for relief of physical discomfort.
It can be used for much more than that, though. Kratom can be used for creating an enhanced mood, productivity, and much, much more.
Most people are interested in taking kratom, but don’t know how—there’s also a ton of different ways to take kratom, to complicate things further.
So, in this article, we’d like to explain not only how to take kratom, but the pros and cons of all the different ways that people decide to take it.
How to Take Kratom
Kratom is ingested orally, however there’s numerous ways to do this. The most common and easiest way to take kratom is by using pills.
But, even though it’s certainly easy, often times kratom vendors will skimp out in their pills, and give you underdosed, low quality products.
Thus, the only way to ensure you get what you’re paying for, is to get powder, which is hard to fake. This is where taking kratom comes in.
Here’s our 5 favorite ways to take kratom:
- Capsules/Pills
- Toss N’ Wash
- Kratom Tea
- Mix With OJ
- Protein Shake
Each of these methods for taking kratom has its own unique pros and cons, and because this can overwhelm beginners, we’ll explain it all step-by-step.
Kratom Capsules
As we said before, this is perhaps the easiest way to take kratom strains, ranging from Indo to Malay, to even extracts and enhanced strains.
One pill is typically equivalent to .5 grams, so this method is relatively inefficient. You would have to take 6 pills to get a beginner 3 gram dosage.
That being said, taking pills is extremely easy and convenient, and is especially good if you’re traveling, on the go, or just generally busy.
Pills are easy to keep at your office, in your desk, or in your backpack, and you don’t have to worry about converting teaspoons to grams for dosing.
Here’s how to take kratom using pills:
- Measure Out Your Dosage
- Put The Pills in Your Mouth
- Take Them Using Water
That’s it. For beginners, we recommend getting kratom pills from The Kratom Worx—start by taking just 4 pills, and reassess in 30 minutes.
Kratom Powder (Tosh & Wash)
Another popular method for taking kratom, known as the toss and wash, allows you to get the best bang for your buck by buying kratom powder.
As we’ve said before, nothing beats high quality kratom powder, like the stuff available for sale from one of our favorite vendors, The Kratom Worx.
While you do have to measure it out yourself to dose properly, it’s a lot easier than you’d think, and is very easy once you get the hang of it.
One teaspoon of kratom is equivalent to roughly 2 grams, so a good beginner dosage might be half a teaspoon, at least to start with.
Here’s how to take kratom using this method:
- Measure Out Your Dose w/ a Teaspoon
- Plug It Into Your Mouth & Chug w/ Water
That’s all you need to do. It may taste somewhat bitter, but that’s normal—just plug and chug your dose, and you’ll feel kratom enhanced in no time.
Kratom Tea
One of the coolest ways to take kratom is by turning it into a tea—in fact, you can do this with large amounts too, and save it for later.
When you make kratom tea and take it using this method, the effect will be a lot smoother, according to most people—kratom tea is a fan favorite.
All you do is simmer some water, mix your kratom in, and ensure it goes no hotter than 190 degrees, otherwise this will destroy the helpful alkaloids.
Here’s how to make kratom tea:
- Measure Your Dosage
- Put Into Simmering Water
- Stir For 2-3 Minutes
- Strain Kratom Powder Away
- Drink Tea (Hot or Chilled!)
If you want to prepare a lot of kratom tea at once (for later), you can do this, too. You can do it with 3-4 oz powder to have ample kratom tea to spare.
The general rule is 1 oz of kratom per liter of water is good. You can adjust it, but the less water you have per oz the stronger the tea will taste.
Mix Kratom With Juice
A simple way to take kratom without having to put in as much work as making a tea, is to simply mix it with orange juice to mask the taste.
This is one of my favorite ways to take Maeng Da kratom, which I find has a bit of a bitter taste when taken alone (although maybe that’s just me).
Orange juice has a lot of health benefits by itself, so when you include kratom powder with it, you’ll get a ton of health promoting alkaloids.
Here’s how to take kratom using the OJ method:
- Measure Out Your Ideal Dosage
- Mix The Kratom Powder w/ 8 oz Orange Juice
- Stir It Around (For At Least 10 Seconds)
- Chug it Down & Feel The Effects!
The orange juice method of taking kratom is great, especially when in a pinch, because it masks the taste, but also doesn’t take as long as the tea.
Kratom Protein Shake
Another great way to consume kratom is to take it with a protein shake, although using this method your dosage will have to be higher.
Usually kratom is taken on an empty stomach, so if you take it with food or by using this method, you’ll have to up your dose to feel the same effects.
The benefits of this method however, is that when you take kratom with a bit of protein, it slows the digestion, so the kratom effects will last longer.
Here’s how to take kratom with this method:
- Grab A Blender Bottle
- Put 2 Scoops of Whey Protein In
- Measure Out 1.5-2x Your Normal Kratom Dosage
- Put It In & Mix It Up For At Least 10-15 Seconds
- Drink The Protein Shake (No Need to Rush)
This is a great way to consume kratom after you hit the gym. If you need to get your protein fix, you can also consume kratom at the same time.
Best Way to Take Kratom
There’s a million different ways to take kratom—from taking kratom powder, to taking kratom capsules, to potions, extracts, pills, and teas, but in my opinion, the best way to take kratom is simply with kratom powder.
It’s cost efficient. It’s super easy. It certainly doesn’t taste the best, but it takes almost no time whatsoever, and is the best way of getting this drug into your system. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy taking kratom capsules, or taking kratom tea, but capsules are more expensive, and making the tea takes too long sometimes.
The best way to take kratom is as follows:
- Measure Your Kratom Dose
- Put it in A Spoon
- Put The Kratom in Your Mouth
- Drink Some Water, Swish it Around, & Swallow
That’s it. Whenever I use kratom, this is almost always how I do it. Kratom capsules are great, because they don’t taste bad at all, but it’s not super cheap, and you have to take a ton of capsules to just get a decent dose of kratom.
Making kratom tea is also great, but it takes forever to make. Sometimes you don’t want to sit around for 20 minutes just to take some kratom. You want to get it over with, get the drug in your system, and get back to work.
This is why, in my opinion, the best way to take kratom is to just take a teaspoon of kratom powder (which is roughly 4-5 grams), put it in your mouth, drink some water, swish it around, and swallow the kratom down your throat.
Tips to Take Kratom
As with anything, you need to understand how it’s done the right way—here at Nanotech we’re veteran kratom users, so have learned the hard way.
There’s tons of different methods to take kratom, and each one will have a slightly different effect on the body, so you have to experiment.
That being said, there’s a few general guidelines that most experts agree will help improve the quality and positive effect of your kratom dose.
Here they are.
Have An Empty Stomach
One way to ensure kratom capsules or powder hits you faster is by simply ensuring you have an empty stomach—most beginners forget this.
Ensure that your last meal was at least an hour ago before you start to take your kratom powder. In fact, I’d wait at least 2-3 hours just to be safe.
This is one reason why many people choose to take kratom first thing in the morning on an empty stomach—the effect is much stronger that way.
Log Your Dosages
Each kratom strain may require a different dosage, depending on your own unique biology, where you buy them from, and some other factors, too.
Enhanced strains, such as extracts for example, tend to hit WAY harder and faster than regular kratom, but in my experience, they don’t last as long.
A dosage of a basic, popular strain such as Green Malay, for example, will hit you far harder than Ultra Enhanced Green Malay Kratom.
This is why all veteran kratom users recommend you record how much you dose, what time you dose, and the effects you feel. Keep a journal to be safe.
Stay Well Hydrated
Another important part of living the kratom lifestyle is to stay well hydrated, because kratom tends to dehydrate you, especially if re-dosed.
I aim to take at least 16 oz of water per kratom dose, and aim to have at least a gallon, or over 100 oz of clean, purified water, each and every day.
It doesn’t matter what strain I’m taking—whether I’m taking extracts, Indo kratom, enhanced kratom, white vein, green vein, whatever.
I ALWAYS stay well-hydrated and ensure that my body has the water it needs (at least 100 oz throughout the day) to run at optimal capacity.
Summary
In conclusion, most people take kratom capsules, and those that don’t usually take kratom powder by using the Toss n’ Wash method.
There’s plenty of other methods to take kratom however, and one of our favorite is the kratom tea method. It works with all strains of kratom, from green to red and white, to enhanced or extracts.
